Ladies, let’s face it – appearance matters. Studies like the one conducted by researchers at Harvard University and Boston University have shown that beauty has a significant positive effect on others’ judgment of your competence and credibility. But as a licensed psychotherapist, I believe it also has a positive effect on our personal confidence.
It is safe to say that even knowing this, we are busy and we would love a makeup regimen we can complete in a just few minutes each day. A look that keeps our appearance looking fresh, rested and natural. And most importantly, one that will last through our busy work day.
I took our career model Daniela Kretchmer, former Marketing Director of Boston-based Amino Apps and demonstrated how this can be achieved with the Motives brand skincare and cosmetics lines. We chose this line because the products are mineral-based, and talc, paraben, and cruelty-free. Because skin is the body’s largest organ, long-wear products should work in harmony with your skin and health.
I started with the most important secret to any successful makeup application – her skin. Skin is the most important part of your makeup application. It’s your makeup canvas. It is crucial that you moisturize and do so throughout the whole year. Even oily skin can become dehydrated. I moisturized her entire face and neck with Motives Vitashield Intensive C&E Liposome Intensive Moisturizer. It is a product that is extremely silky, doesn’t leave a residue and gives skin a smooth texture.
I used a pea size amount of Motives Complexion Perfection Face Primer as a base. A good primer creates a bond between your skin and makeup, and it extends the life of your foundation. It also reduces the appearance of imperfections in the skin. Give the primer one minute to set.
Daniela expressed that she has challenges finding the perfect foundation color for her skin tone. I selected a color palette for Daniela that complimented her fair skin tone, brown eyes and red hair color. I selected Motives Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation with SPF 15 – “Vanilla cream” color. This mineral foundation contains vitamins A, C, and E. It drys into powder finish and minimizes the appearance of pores.
Tip: Foundation should be applied with a brush and blended with round strokes.
From Motives’ Mavens Sculpt Series, I used the “light” color as a concealer under Daniela’s eyes and on her cheek bones to brighten those darker areas on her face. I blended colors from this same palette under her cheek bones to create a bronze look. This also adds depth.
I used the “Raven” color from the Motives Mavens Element Eye Shadow palette to line her eyes and tapped a matte “Ivory” shadow on her eyelids. I blended the “Light brown” into outside corner of her eye and then added “Dark brown”. With a fine brush, I lined under her eyes with the “Dark brown” and then with “Black”, I created a liner look.
Tip: Shadow liners last much longer than off-the shelf eye liners.
To add a soft color to her lips that worked well with her red hair, I filled her lips with Motives All Day Liquid Stick in “Tantalize” color.
A very important step for creating a long-lasting look is to spray the whole face with Motives 10 Years Younger Makeup Setting Spray. This secret weapon has aloe leaf juice as its main ingredient.
Tip: Do this before applying mascara. It will prevent makeup from setting into fine lines, and give your face a glow. It will also extend the time between any touch-ups.
Finally, I coated her lashes two times with Motives® La La Mineral Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara and “Voila” Daniela was ready to impress.
Now, its your turn. Tell us about your fast and long-lasting daily regimen.
